Dan Evans will meet Kyle Edmund in a Battle of Britain clash at the Monte Carlo Masters with the winner set to face nine-time champion Rafael Nadal in the second round.

World No 44 Evans is ranked three spots higher than his Davis Cup team-mate Edmund.

They have faced each other competitively only once, in the 2016 Challenger final in Dallas. Edmund won 6-3 6-2 in January last year, although both players have made huge strides on the ATP Tour since.

Will Rafa rule on clay again?

Nadal, aiming to win a record 50th clay-court career crown, will take on the winner with a potential date with Alexander Zverev in the third round.

The Spaniard has been drawn in the same half as two-time winner Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem and Grigor Dimitrov.

World No 1 Andy Murray, who has recovered from an elbow injury to complete in the principality, will be hoping to go one better after reaching the Monte Carlo semi-finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016.

The Scot will face Gilles Muller or wild card Tommy Robredo in the second round, with a possible quarter-final against fifth seed Marin Cilic or 2015 runner-up Tomas Berdych.

Djokovic will play Gilles Simon or Malek Jaziri in his first match, while 2014 champion Stan Wawrinka, who is in the same half of the draw as Murray, will face Mischa Zverev or Jiri Vesely in the second round.
