Heather Watson began the defence of her Monterrey Open title with a hard-fought win over Serbia's Nina Stojanovic.
The British No 3 bounced back from losing a tight second-set tie-break to eventually triumph 6-2 6-7 (7/9) 6-4 in a match lasting almost three hours.
It marked a welcome return to winning ways for Watson who has struggled for form this year and crashed out in the first round in Miami last week.
Watson, who is currently down at No 125 in the world, broke Stojanovic twice to take the first set.
The pair swapped two breaks apiece in the second set before the Briton opened a 5-2 lead in the tie-break.
But from there she lost seven of the next nine points, including a brace of match points, but held her composure in the decider.
She made the only break of serve in game three and sealed the victory to love.
Watson now faces sixth seed Ekaterina Makarova with the possibility of taking on world No 1 Angelique Kerber in the quarter-finals.
