Donald Trump was rushed off stage by Secret Service at a Nevada rally Saturday night amid a disturbance in the crowd.

It came just after Trump had gone on a riff about an apparent protester in the audience. He put his hand over his face to shield his eyes from the glare of the lights and look toward the crowd when the Secret Service agents whisked him offstage.

In a statement late Saturday, the Secret Service said an unidentified individual had shouted "gun" near the front of the crowd.

The Secret Service and tactical police officers soon detained a subject. Upon a thorough search of the subject and the surrounding areas, the agency said, no weapon was found.

The Republican nominee returned to the stage a few minutes later, and continued where he left off in his speech.

"Nobody said it would be easy for us," he said. "But we will never be stopped. Never. Ever."

He thanked the Secret Service.

"So let's get back to repealing the defense sequester," he said.

Trump released a statement following the conclusion of the rally.

"I would like to thank the United States Secret Service and the law enforcement resources in Reno and the state of Nevada for their fast and professional response," he said in the statement. "I also want to thank the many thousands of people present for their unwavering and unbelievable support. Nothing will stop us - we will make America great again!"

The Secret Service said an investigation was ongoing at this time.
