Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares are out of the ATP Tour World Finals after suffering a disappointing straight sets semi-final defeat to Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram.

However, Murray and Soares were already guaranteed to finish the year as the world's top ranked pairing, after Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert were beaten on Friday.

Murray and Soares had won all three of their round robin matches but they were no match for South Africa's Klaasen and Ram of the US, who cruised to a 6-1 6-4 win in exactly an hour.

The match was delayed because of Andy Murray's epic singles victory over Milos Raonic, which took three and a half hours.

And Murray and Soares seemed to be elsewhere in the first set of their doubles semi, which they lost in just 21 minutes.

They were more competitive in the second set but Soares, who could have been crowned individual World No 1 if the pair had claimed the title, was broken twice as Klaasen and Ram advanced.

The seventh seeds will now play Finland's Henri Kontinen and Murray's former partner John Peers of Australia in the final on Sunday.

Kontinen and Peers defeated American duo Bob and Mike Bryan 7-6 6-4 in their semi on Saturday afternoon.
