Kyle Edmund reached his first ATP Tour semi-final with a 6-3 6-4 win over Andreas Seppi at the European Open in Antwerp on Friday.

Fresh from vanquishing second seed David Ferrer on Thursday, Edmund made a strong start to his fourth quarter-final of an increasingly impressive season.

He broke Seppi in the fourth game of the match and pushed on from there and was rarely troubled on his own serve as he powered through the opening set 6-3.

An early break in the second set gave the Briton - enjoying a career high world ranking of 43 - yet more confidence and Seppi was always chasing the game thereafter.

The Italian was unable to make any inroads on Edmund's serve, and struggled to deal with the a barrage of heavy groundstrokes and Edmund duly converted his first match point to book his place in Saturday's final four, where he will face Richard Gasquet, the man he beat in the first round at the US Open in August.

This good form could see the Beverley-born ace move into the top 40 in Monday's rankings; should he do so, he would join Nick Kyrgios and Alexander Zverev as the only players aged 21 or under in the world's leading 40 players.
