Kyle Edmund's run at the European Open in Antwerp was ended at the semi-final stage by third seed Richard Gasquet.

Edmund took the opening set against the Frenchman and took a 4-2 lead in the second before Gasquet found his rhythm and claimed control of the match.

The Briton had beaten Gasquet, who was struggling with injury, at the US Open earlier this summer and the first hour of the game looked like providing a repeat, as well as a first ATP Tour final.

But once Gasquet broke back to level the second set, and followed that up with a second break soon after he was able to exert his superiority.

He forced nine more break points in the deciding set, and although he could only take two of them he was almost perfect on his own serve and secured a 3-6 7-5 6-2 victory.

Gasquet will bid for his 14th ATP Tour title against unseeded Diego Schwartzman of Argentina on Sunday after he stunned home favourite, and top seed, David Goffin 7-5 2-6 7-5.

Defeat for Goffin was costly as it badly hurt his hopes of securing a place in the ATP Tour Finals in London next month.

He is currently 10th in the ATP Race standings and, with Rafa Nadal already out, victory would have put him close to the top eight.
