In-form Johanna Konta is through to the third round in Hong Kong

British No 1 Johanna Konta joined Heather Watson in the second round of the Hong Kong Open with victory over compatriot Naomi Broady.

Konta reached the final of the China Open last week, where she was beaten by Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska, and as a result became the first British woman to break into the top 10 of the world ranking in 32 years.

The 25-year-old - who is also now on course to reach the WTA Finals in Singapore later this month - had too much for Broady, making the most of early breaks in each set to complete a 6-2 6-2 win in one hour and 19 minutes; she will face Wang Qiang of China in the third round.

Regarding her prospects of making the end-of-season showdown in Singapore, Konta said: "I am trying not to think about it, to be honest.

"I have really got to keep myself present, especially since there are so many variables with that. It really depends on how other players do as well."

Heather Watson was also on song in Hong Kong

On Wednesday, Broady and Watson are set to team up in the doubles, where the British pair will take on Ya-Hsuan Lee of Chinese Taipei and Japan's Kotomi Takahata.

Earlier on Tuesday, Watson, the British No 2, had defeated qualifier Marina Erakovic from New Zealand 7-5 7-6 in just over two hours.

Next up for Watson is Caroline Wozniacki, the fifth seed and former world number one.

The Dane made her way into the last 16 with a routine 6-1 6-4 success over China's Saisai Zheng.
